Merid. 2017, 20(1):1-11 | DOI: 10.1515/acta-2017-0002667 This research aims at: (1) identifying the impact of social media on Jordanian universities, in relevance to reputation and crisis communications; (2) investigating the measures applied to deal with possible reputation and crisis emergencies, and (3) developing a risk register for ensuring best practice of risk management. One hundred questionnaires were randomly distributed to 5 universities, and 20 students were selected from each one. The findings have revealed that the connection between social media and risk management has a great impact on the reputation of the university. In accordance with this, operational authorities in Jordan, as the Ministry of Higher Education should demonstrate to Jordanian universities how essential it is to implement a crisis communication and risk management plan in relevance to social media as well as other processes. |
Importance of Knowledge Continuity in Business Continuity ManagementHana Urbancová, Kateĝina VenclováActa Univ. Bohem. Merid. 2013, 16(1):3-13 | DOI: 10.32725/acta.2013.001709 At present, the real generator of wealth in society, as well as in the economy as a whole, is knowledge. Knowledge that is critical and precious for an organization (whose loss would represent a threat for the organisation) and that is valuable for competitors needs to be treated with care. Knowledge continuity management is, also, applied to preserve critical knowledge in an organisation in situations where its holder leaves to join a competitor or to retire. The article aims to identify the level of business continuity ensuring in organisations with an emphasis on knowledge continuity. Without employees with the necessary knowledge it is not possible to ensure business continuity. The article contains recommendations for anticipating threats and the elimination of their effects on human resources through knowledge continuity. The article is prepared on the basis of the evaluation of results of research conducted in organisations in the tertiary sector in the Czech Republic. The results show that the majority of organisations do not ensure knowledge continuity as a part of Business Continuity Management, which leads to a threatening of key processes in organisations. One of the conclusions of the article is that, by systematic ensuring of business continuity, it is possible to support the continuity of individual activities in organisational processes and, thus, support Business Continuity Management. |

Merid. 2012, 15(1):65-75 | DOI: 10.32725/acta.2012.006534 In the current knowledge economy employees are considered to be the key competitive advantage because their knowledgee represents the most valuable asset of the organization. When employees leave an organization, they take their knowledge with them. The loss of knowledge represents a potential threat for organizations, in particular if employee with critical knowledge leaves to join a competitor. The article concentrates on the ensuring of knowledge continuity as a possibility of eliminating the threat of loss of knowledge, in case of personnel changes. The objective of the article is to examine the level of ensuring of knowledge continuity in organizations in Czech Republic and to identify the factors affecting the ensuring of knowledge continuity. Ensuring the knowledge continuity was analyzed by means of the quantitative and the qualitative survey. The organization, in which the knowledge continuity is systematically ensured, if an employee leaves, the organization will not lose his/her critical knowledge since it has already been transferred in some form to other employee. In result the quality of organization processes can be preserved and development and decision-making improved. |
